Freshmen Kourtney Keegan (back) and Belinda Woolcock compete in the doubles finals of the Bedford Cup on Oct. 13 at the Ring Tennis Complex.

The Gators continued to struggle on Day 3 of the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships.

No Gator duo advanced to the doubles finals, and only (senior) Alex Cercone will advance to the singles finals on Monday.

Cercone began her day in an showdown against sophomore teammate Brianna Morgan, which she won 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-2. Not too long after her first victory, she went on to take down top-seeded and No. 14-ranked Maho Kowase from Georgia, 6-3, 6-4, in the semifinals. The win against Kowase was her 98th career singles victory.

“Alex showed amazing resilience today – first, in playing her teammate and that match was high-level tennis, then in beating Kowase in straight sets” coach Roland Thornqvist.

Senior Sofie Oyen advanced to the singles semifinals, but was defeated by Silvia Garcia (UGA) 6-4,6-4.

On the doubles court, freshmen Kourtney Keegan and Belinda Woolcock lost in the semifinals to UGA’s Lauren Herring and Maho Kowase 8-6.

Monday will conclude the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships, beginning with main singles finals at 11 a.m.
