Gainesville Police arrested a Hawthorne woman Saturday afternoon after police said she beat up a child for having to pee and changing her mind.

Lisa Teresa Truesdale, 33, was arrested on charges of child abuse, according to a GPD arrest report.

At about 12:30 p.m., multiple witnesses reported they heard “blood curdling screams” coming from the east side of a parking lot in the 2300 block of North Main Street, according to the report.

The witnesses said they saw Truesdale slap a child several times. She lifted her up about waist-high and dropped her. Truesdale violently shook the girl and then pulled her into a car, according to the report.

The witnesses said they saw blood coming from one of the girl’s nostrils, according to the report.

During questioning with police, Truesdale said the girl had to “pee,” according to the report. She brought the girl to a field and instructed her to use the bathroom there. However, the girl changed her mind, saying she no longer needed to urinate. Then, Truesdale said the girl “threw a fit,” according to the report. Truesdale added she didn’t hit the girl and only touched her to help pull her pants up.

Officers booked Truesdale into the Alachua County Jail at about 3 p.m., where she remained Monday night with bond set at $25,000.
