Even though it’s not gameday, students will still be tailgating on campus.
UF RecSports is hosting its annual cornhole tournament at 5 p.m. today at the Broward Outdoor Recreational Complex.
Matt Thalhamer, event coordinator of the tournament and program assistant for competitive sports, said the game is popular now that it is tailgating season.
Thalhamer said there will be a stereo playing with country music to add to the tailgate theme.
“The tournament is a way to introduce students to the sport and become aware for tailgates this Fall,” Thalhamer said.
Forty-eight students are expected to attend. The event turnout is about on par with last year, he said.
The single-elimination style tournament consists of two-person teams with a total of 24 teams. The winning team of the cornhole tournament will be given intramural champion T-shirts.
Thalhamer said this year is different from previous years because it will be held outdoors.
David King, a 20-year-old UF mechanical engineering junior, said he’s hoping that his opponent will not like the heat and use it to his own advantage.
King participated in last year’s cornhole tournament and said he’s excited to return.
“I’m hoping to win a T-shirt,” he said.
