The Gator Nation is now pocket-sized.
UF has a new mobile app compatible with iPhones and Androids available for free. (Click either link to take you to the respective app store page)
The official native app, University of Florida, features UF news feeds, an event calendar, a directory, a campus map and an RTS tracker.
With access to ISIS, e-Learning and GatorZone athletics updates, the mobile app has something for everyone, UF spokesman Steve Orlando said.
“If you look around, just about every student has a smartphone,” he said. “This is the best way to reach them and give them what they need.”
As of Monday, 7,921 people had downloaded the app through the App Store, and 2,688 downloaded it through Google Play, Orlando said.
Orlando said development for the native mobile app started in March by the UF Information Technology staff.
UFIT spent about 450 hours in total working on the app, Orlando said. About 300 of those hours were spent on development.
Sarah Aitchison, a 21-year-old UF nursing senior, said she would consider downloading the app for the RTS tracker.
“I don’t really need a map these days because all my classes are in the same spot,” she said. “But I’m sure it would be helpful for freshmen.”
