UF's eCampus website goes live, freshmen applications available Sept. 3

UF is one step closer to launching the country’s first online-only university.

The eCampus website very recently went live at http://www.ecampus.ufl.edu, and it’s packed with information for students — a class of which UF’s administration hopes to have by January, UF President Bernie Machen said last week in his State of the University address.

A graphic urging viewers to “APPLY TODAY!” links to a UF admissions page. It displays a message saying applications for both eCampus and regular freshmen will be available Sept. 3.

Other features on the website include a financial page where the total cost per credit hour for in-state students is calculated to be $129.58 ($467.08 for out-of-state students). Students who enroll in eCampus will pay 75 percent of the tuition price standard UF undergraduate students do, Machen said last week. The fees are different, too.

The site shows details about its first five degree programs as well: business, sport management, health education, criminology and law, and environmental management.

Current, on-campus UF sport management junior Matt Stewart, 20, said he thought it might be more difficult to get the degree by only doing online work.

“You don’t get the in-class experience and the one-on-one with the teachers and the group projects,” he said.
