Everyone has heard the adage “breakfast is the most important meal of the day,” but how many of us actually take it to heart?
Most college students grab whatever is quick and convenient in the morning, or skip the meal altogether. And eating something healthy is usually an afterthought.
In my opinion, oatmeal is a great way to start the day because it’s healthy and can easily be spiced up with fruit and toppings. Plus oatmeal is full of fiber, which will keep you feeling fuller longer when you have a long day of classes ahead. Oatmeal is really simple to prepare, and you can be out the door in less than 15 minutes.
Here are some ideas to try:
Strawberry Nutella oatmeal
Ingredients:
Fresh strawberries, sliced
Nutella
Peanut butter banana oatmeal
Ingredients:
1 banana, sliced
peanut butter
honey
chopped nuts (optional)
Apple cinnamon oatmeal
Ingredients:
1 small apple, cubed
raisins
cinnamon
brown sugar
Directions for all:
Cook oats as directed on container. (You can substitute water with milk or non-dairy milk for creamier oatmeal.) Stir in ingredients before removing oatmeal from heat. Top oatmeal with extra ingredients if desired. Enjoy!
