A Gainesville man was arrested Thursday after police said he drove his lawn mower under the influence.
Gainesville Police Officer Herslyn Romero pulled over 53-year-old Marion Allen Burden, who was seated on a motorized lawn mower driving north near the 1000 block of Southeast 20th Street.
Romero observed signs of intoxication in Burden, including slurred speech, soiled clothes and a lethargic demeanor, according to the report.
Burden also smelled of alcohol, according to the report.
When Romero asked Burden if he had been drinking, Burden said, “Of course.”
“What?” the officer asked.
“Beer,” he said.
“How much?” the officer asked.
“A four-pack of Tall Paul’s,” Burden said.
Romero arrested Burden at about 6:30 p.m. and took him to the Alachua County Jail. He was booked on charges of driving under the influence and operating a motor vehicle with a canceled, suspended or revoked driver’s license.
As of press time, he had been released. Burden’s court date for the DUI is yet to be determined, according to the citation.
