Who doesn’t love a Pixar film? It feels like such a long time ago when “Monsters, Inc.” made its debut back in 2001. I was more than ready for “Monsters University” to see Mike and Sulley again.
Though I’m no longer a kid, the characters were still as charming and funny as ever, and placing them in a college setting was a wonderful way to attract an older audience who can certainly relate to Mike and Sulley’s experience entering college.
Seeing Mike walk onto campus for the first time was wonderfully accurate and brought back memories of when I first started at UF and came face to face with super enthusiastic RAs, lots of clubs tabling to get you to join and meeting an unknown roommate for the first time.
Pixar even set up a website for “Monsters University” that functions the way a real university website does, complete with admissions information, a video message from the dean and student testimonials. The website was even “hacked” by the Monster’s University’s major rival, Fear Tech, on April Fool’s Day.
Overall, my return to the “Monsters, Inc.” world was thoroughly enjoyable. The movie introduced fun, new characters and was as charming and heartwarming as you would expect from a Pixar film. It also had an unexpected ending which I liked, as Mike and Sulley find their success in an unexpected, unconventional way.
