Indie pop band Matt and Kim to headline next week’s Swampfest

After their Bonnaroo appearance but before Lollapalooza, Matt and Kim will play at UF. The indie pop duo will headline the second annual Swampfest at 6:30 p.m. July 12 at Flavet Field, said Student Government Productions vice chair of marketing Alyssa Fagien. R&B YouTube sensation Ahmir and another indie pop group, Cults, will also be performing.

SGP chairman Daniel Levin would not disclose the amounts the artists will be paid.

The showcase, which SGP will present in conjunction with Student Government, Visa and Reitz Union Board Entertainment, is free and open to the public, Fagien said. Alcohol, big backpacks and coolers are not permitted.

“The show will go on, rain or shine,” she said.

Fagien said last year Swampfest was held in the Spring, but due to complications it was moved to Summer B.

“I am excited that it is being held during Summer B because it gives incoming freshman a chance to attend the concert and learn more about SGP and Student Government at UF,” Fagien said.

Lisa Hernando, a 22-year-old economics student at UF, said she is excited to see Matt and Kim.

“I’ve seen them live before,” she said. “The audience goes crazy when Matt and Kim perform. The experience is absolutely exhilarating.”
