Forward Will Yeguete underwent arthroscopic debridement on his right knee Wednesday morning at Shands, UF confirmed.
His recovery should take about four months, and he could return for the start of preseason practices. Arthroscopic debridement involves the removal of damaged cartilage or bone.
“Surgery went well!Thank you for your thoughts&prayers I really appreciate it! Another challenge has begun for me! #ComeBack #GoGators,” Yeguete posted on his Twitter account (@Will15Yeguete) Wednesday at 3:25 p.m.
On Feb. 8, Yeguete underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove bone chips in his right knee. After the season, coach Billy Donovan called Yeguete’s first surgery a “short-term fix.”
Yeguete missed six games and returned to the lineup March 2. During UF’s final 10 contests, the 6-foot-7, 240-pound forward averaged 4.5 points and 4.8 rebounds in 18.9 minutes per game.
He experienced swelling in his right knee following Florida’s 78-64 win against Minnesota on March 24. Before UF defeated FGCU in the Sweet 16, he had his right knee drained.
Yeguete is the second UF player to have surgery this offseason. Center Patric Young underwent surgery on his right ankle April 12 to remove a bone spur.
Frazier accepts USA invite: Shooting guard Michael Frazier II will join USA Basketball’s training camp for the 2013 U-19 FIBA World Championships.
Frazier is one of 24 players who will compete for 12 roster spots on the U-19 squad, which Donovan will coach.
USA’s training camp will take place June 14-19 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The U-19 FIBA World Championships will be held in Prague from June 27 to July 7.
“I’m really looking forward to competing with some of the best players in the country and trying to earn a place on the team,” Frazier said in a release.
Frazier averaged 5.6 points off the bench in his freshman season with the Gators last year. The 6-foot-4 Tampa native shot a team-best 46.8 percent from three-point range and earned SEC All-Freshman Team honors.
“USA Basketball is always looking for good outside shooting,” Donovan said in a release.
“He certainly provides that.”
