Summer is a time for movies and a time for love. This week’s What To Watch movie combines them both.
Directed by the over-the-top Baz Luhrmann, “The Great Gatsby” is as visually stunning as you’d expect.
Unlike the next few weeks’ upcoming releases, it’s the perfect summer date movie.
And in what seems like a Hollywood miracle, the movie seems to follow the book quite well.
The highlight of the movie is the rap-filled soundtrack. It seems weird for a movie set in the early 1900s where jazz ran rampant, but it works.
Especially in the hotel scene with Myrtle: The bass drop seems 100 percent on target.
The soundtrack brings something for the guys, while the movie’s story will draw in all the females.
Running at two hours and 22 minutes, “The Great Gatsby” is rather long. The last hour of the movie drags on to the point where you realize the producer could have cut about 30 minutes and there would still be a complete story.
With that being said, “The Great Gatsby” is a worthy way to kick off your summer moviegoing.
