UF Performing Arts recently announced it will put on 76 performances during its 2013-2014 season lineup.

The season will feature six musicals, including “Mamma Mia!” and “Hello, Dolly!”; banjoist Bela Fleck; a cappella group Straight No Chaser and a UF alumna’s new opera, The Red Silk Thread, according to UFPA’s website.

The selection process began about two years ago, UFPA Director Michael Blachly wrote in an email. Contemporary, pop, jazz, rock and blues artists book in a shorter time, Blachly said, so UFPA is still looking to add those genres to the season.

UF students respond well to Broadway musicals, dance companies and world performances, public relations associate Todd Taylor wrote in an email.

“We also think students will be excited about Straight No Chaser and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy,” Taylor said.

Blachly said 28 of the 66 artists are repeat visitors to UF.

Students can purchase a single ticket to each UFPA event for $10, excluding musicals. Tickets for musicals are $20 each for students.

UF education sophomore Shantall Pirie, 19, said she has attended performances for class and liked them.

“I would go on my own,” she said.
