We know it as the historic building nestled between the high-end restaurants and hole-in-the-wall clubs that flood the streets on many weekends. But the Hippodrome State Theatre is a cultural hub of artistic expression and theatrical excellence. And it’s having a birthday.
The Hippodrome turned the big 4-0.
The theater, founded in April 1973, will hold a birthday celebration Saturday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at its downtown performance venue to recognize its 40 years and counting.
This birthday party promises to be a night of food and drinks, featuring performances by Hippodrome actors, live musical entertainment and art pieces. Guests will also be able to view performances by the cast of “Avenue Q,” which the Hipp will present later this month.
Director of Marketing for the Hippodrome Theatre, Jessica Hurov, said that about 300 guests are expected to attend Saturday.
Those interested in attending the celebration should contact the Hippodrome’s box office. Tickets are $40 on sale now.
