Student Body President launches behind-the-scenes blog, Twitter

UF Student Body President Christina Bonarrigo has on campus covered. Now, she’s going online.

Bonarrigo’s office has launched a Twitter account — @UF_SBPrez — and blog — www.studentbodyprezuf.blogspot.com — for the newly elected 22-year-old.

The goal, according to a news release, is to give readers information about her work to impact the UF experience.

Bonarrigo said she started a blog during her Spring campaign and received more than 7,000 views the week it launched. But she wanted to change its focus to be more interactive.

“I thought, ‘Why not create a Student Body President blog where I could highlight what I do as Student Body President, what my role entails and also create a personal aspect to better connect with students?’” Bonarrigo said.

She said she meets weekly with her press secretary, Collin Thompson, to write the blog posts. Her blog will be updated on Tuesdays and Thursdays for now, but she hopes to increase that frequency by the time Fall starts.

“If it is something that students interact with and relate to ... we can definitely increase the number of times we do it per week,” Bonarrigo said.

So far, she has posted three times: about Preview, the 2013 state legislative session and Summer A. Bonarrigo said the blog aims to merge her personal and political lives to engage students.

UF nursing student Christine Farina, 22, said that goal is good.

“It depends on how hard she’s willing to work,” she said. “I know a lot of students are kind of frustrated with the way Student Government is run.”
