If you are a Gainesville resident looking to pop some tags with only twenty dollars in your pocket, then you will find no shortage of thrift store options available to you.

Even before Macklemore’s song, the trendy, low-budget youth of America were shopping at thrift stories. Throw on some second-hand boots and a large sweater previously owned by a man in 1995 with some tights and you will have a cute outfit for less than $10.

So, here are some highlights of Gainesville thrift stores:

Outreach Thrift Store

The only thing to be aware of when going to Outreach is to be mindful of their fear of shoplifting. I say this because you have to leave your bag or purse at the register when you enter. There was a large collection of clothing, which I’m sure many gems could be discovered in with some digging. The best, most ridiculous item I uncovered was a wedding gown that was reminiscent of the one Geena Davis work in the film “BeetleJuice.” Outreach is located at 125 NW 23rd Ave.

Family Treasures

Family Treasures does not have much in the way of clothes, but they have a lot to offer when it comes to miscellaneous items such as art, a thigh master, toys, music boxes and plenty of other little trinkets. If you head downtown, visit Family Treasures at 710 N. Main St.

Cecile’s

Located at 2131 NW 6th St., Cecile’s is slightly different from a thrift store in that it is a consignment shop, which not many people can distinguish from a thrift store. The main difference from between the two is the prices. The clothes sold at a thrift store are donated, so they are not very selective with their merchandise. A consignment shop actually picks and chooses what they want to sell and many of these items are vintage, which usually mean EXPENSIVE. Where else could you find a vintage dress design by Alfred Shaken from Hawaii for $39.99?

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is a bigger name is the world of thrift stores, but the one located in Gainesville does not have too much to offer when it comes to clothing. There are plenty of mom jeans that could be fashioned into high-waist shorts, but other than that, the only interested item was a Nerf gun being sold for $1.99.
