Wednesday opening-night art show

The empty retail space next to Vellos Brickstreet Grill came to life for the opening night of Gainesville Fashion Week. The small space was filled with a trendy 21-and-up crowd sipping on champagne and admiring art on display.
Weaving in and out of the crowd, models with bold makeup and intricate hair wore jewelry from Stella & Dot and Jurney Jurray.
The music at the beginning of the night felt like an upbeat playlist from Forever 21 of songs no one really knows. Later in the evening, the DJ handed off his microphone, turning the attendees’ attention to musical performers.
A Bob Marley piano tribute started off the acts and was followed by Camryn Wessner, a singer-songwriter who gave a female Jack Johnson vibe as she strummed her ukulele.
One GFW social media intern, Chin Chin Hao, performed covers of Rihanna and Justin Timberlake with her friend Tilman Monsanto.
UF’s a cappella group No Southern Accent captivated the crowd with its stage presence as the group performed a diverse set.
Closing out the performances in the gallery, Miami singer-songwriter Victoria performed a Lady Gaga mash-up and an original song.
After the performances, the social crowd spilled over to the bar at Vellos and continued to enjoy live music and drinks.
The art show was an intimate way to kick off GFW and get people excited. The trendy Gainesville crowd was able to enjoy a social night of art, music and a taste of the fashion to come in the next four days.
