Gainesville Police arrested a man early Friday after he attacked his girlfriend and threw rocks at her car.
Marques Antawn Purdy, 27, was arrested on simple battery, shooting/throwing a deadly missile into a dwelling/vehicle charges and violation of probation charges, according to a GPD arrest report.
At about 2:30 a.m., Purdy and his girlfriend, Gwendolyn Latoya Gilbert, were arguing about Gilbert’s child at Purdy’s house.
Purdy climbed into Gilbert’s car and started pulling her hair. He then poured beer on her head and grabbed her face before getting out of the car, according to the report.
As Gilbert tried to drive away, Purdy threw several rocks at the car, according to the report.
At about 4 a.m., GPD and ASO officers arrested Purdy at Gilbert’s house in the 3400 block of Southeast 16th Avenue, according to the report.
During questioning, Purdy said he and Gilbert fought but denied touching her.
Police reported two dents in the driver’s side door of Gilbert’s car. Gilbert also had chunks of hair missing from her weave, according to the report.
Purdy told officers he’d been on probation since 2011 for a domestic battery arrest, according to the report.
After Purdy’s arrest, officers booked him into the Alachua County Jail at about 5:40 a.m. Friday, where he remained Sunday night.
