UF criminology junior-turned-author Nikolas Wong is hosting a book signing today for his recently published work, “The Coffee House.”
The all-day “Coffee V.S. Cancer” event is on the Reitz Union Colonnade, and books will be sold for $10. Half of the proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.
“The sole purpose for this event is to bring the Student Body and staff together while doing something great and making history,” Wong, 21, said.
Wong’s aunt, who is battling colon cancer, is the inspiration for “Coffee V.S. Cancer.”
“I know what it’s like to have a relative affected by cancer,” Wong said. “I’m trying to make a difference.”
The event will have live music featuring the band Revision and photography by Project-Legacy Photography’s Sylva Kabuanseya.
Wong will also collect general donations that will go directly to the American Cancer Society.
“We are so proud of him,” said Wong’s aunt, May Leung said. “I did not realize my illness would have such a profound effect on him.”
While Wong does not have any specific expectations, he is looking forward to giving back.
“I want to show that we can bring people together and do something selfless,” he said.
