South Florida rapper’s Ecstasy ends in jail

A South Florida rapper scheduled to perform at Allure NightClub was arrested on drug charges early Sunday.

Gainesville Police arrested Dothan Richardson, 35, of 426 Parkway Court in Greenacres, Fla., at about 1:30 a.m. on drug possession with intent to sell and marijuana possession charges, according to a GPD arrest report.

At about 12:15 a.m. Sunday, a GPD officer stopped a car in the 200 block of Northwest First Avenue for a seat-belt violation. The officer reported the smell of marijuana coming from the car.

Richardson, who sat in the front passenger seat, told the officer he had a “little bit of weed” on him and agreed to a search, according to the report. The officer found five Ecstasy pills, equal to 1.5 grams, as well as 2.7 grams of marijuana in Richardson’s pockets. Police also reported finding $1,955 in cash.

During questioning, Richardson said he planned to get rid of the drugs. However, he changed his story, saying he was going to take all the pills himself. He then said he wanted to take some of the pills and give the others to a woman, according to the report.

GPD spokesman Officer Ben Tobias said Richardson was in town to perform at the nightclub, located at 238 W. University Ave. Officers booked Richardson into the Alachua County Jail at about 2 a.m. Sunday. He was released later that day after meeting bond.
