The odds will be in Erica Alaniz’s favor once she volunteers as a tribute for District 14 tonight.
Clad in Katniss Everdeen’s signature braid and wardrobe, Alaniz will attend Reitz Union Board Entertainment’s “The Hunger Games”-themed event as part of its weeklong ode to the popular film and book series.
“I’m really excited to see if anyone else actually dresses up, because I know it’s pretty hard to find very real-looking Hunger Games outfits,” the 18-year-old UF telecommunication freshman said. “It’s not like ‘Harry Potter’ where you can just wear a cloak.”
“The Hunger Games” District 14 event, hosted by the club’s Special Events committee, features T-shirt decorating, marshmallow archery, bow and arrow design, District-themed food and more, said RUB Entertainment’s band director and incoming president Jessica Watson.
“We’re making [‘The Hunger Games’] come to life and making it all come together in our own district here at UF,” said the 21-year-old UF public relations junior. Later in the week will be a Capitol-inspired karaoke session at Orange and Brew followed by a screening in the Reitz Union Auditorium.
