Hi, my name is Luke Killam, and I’m running to represent the UF College of Engineering in the Student Government Senate.
I am a transfer student from the University of West Florida, where I was in the honors program and graduated with an Associate of Arts degree. Aside from my involvement in the honors program, I also held leadership positions in the Baptist Collegiate Ministry and student government.
During my time at UWF, the student government balanced the budget so that a surplus of money was redistributed to give students free printing credits to their campus accounts. This was something that we, as members of Student Government, took great pride in because it was the first time free printing had ever been applied in this manner.
As a senator for UF’s College of Engineering, I would have no agenda — except for one driven by the wants and ideas of engineering students. That being said, these are some of the initiatives that have been brought to my attention thus far:
1. Push for a digital textbook platform
2. Add cloud storage space to Gatorlink accounts
3. Increase hours of operation at Marston Science Library
4. More discussion time in classes
5. Add more power outlets to Marston
6. Renovate furniture and increase whiteboards at Marston
This summer, I had the opportunity to work for Congressman Jeff Miller and Senator Marco Rubio in Washington, D.C. My time with them made me realize how influential The Gator Nation truly is, because they are both UF alumni.
Our college produces leaders. Right now, more than 367,000 alumni represent UF worldwide. I would be honored to serve within a student government that will work to ensure UF continues to be a place where all alumni can return and be proud of their foundation in The Gator Nation.
