Holocaust scholar Alan Rosen will be speaking at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Pugh Hall on UF’s campus.

The event, part of the Samuel Proctor Oral History Program, will stress the importance of the experiences Holocaust survivors faced in concentration camps, said Paul Ortiz, associate professor in history and director of the history program.

“This event will ask us to think about the larger impact the Holocaust will continue to have today,” Ortiz said.

Rosen has researched some of the earliest historical interviews conducted with Holocaust survivors. These interviews, conducted by David Boder following World War II, are detailed in Rosen’s book “The Wonder of Their Voices: The 1946 Holocaust Interviews of David Boder.”

Rosen has a doctorate in literature and religion from Boston University, where he studied under renowned Holocaust survivor and author Elie Wiesel, according to a press release.

Scott Kraff, a 22-year-old UF history and political science senior, has been involved with the history program research staff for a year.

Kraff works with the technical crew and helps with the setup of the programs provided by the Samuel Proctor Oral History Program.

“I think it’s a unique experience to go to,” Kraff said. “As a student of the Holocaust, it doesn’t get much better than this.”

The event will have free parking, and there will also be a reception and book signing after Rosen speaks.
