The first day of Student Government elections saw a slightly smaller turnout than the Spring 2012 semester.
Supervisor of Elections Stephen Davis said 6,274 ballots were counted Tuesday.
Last year, 6,517 votes were cast on the first day of Spring elections. Tuesday’s turnout is larger than the first day of the Fall 2012 election, which counted 5,860 votes.
There were no major technical difficulties, Davis said.
Mechanical engineering freshman Jon Pendoley, 19, said the Google Chrome browser was slow, so he switched to Internet Explorer to cast his vote at the Reitz Union.
Students Party spokesman Michael Christ said the party is thrilled with the support it has received.
“We’re excited to meet more students tomorrow and talk with them about how we can best serve them in Student Government,” he said.
Swamp Party spokesman Elliot Grasso said his party received support from a wide range of students.
“Our volunteers and candidates are doing an excellent job conveying our positive message, informing students and voting,” he said.
Voting continues today from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and students can vote at any of the 12 locations on campus.
Locations include Room C202 in the Springs Residential Complex; conference Room 106 in the Murphree Area Commons; Room 2103B in McCarty B; Broward Hall basement; Jennings’ first floor library; Bruton-Geer Hall at the UF Law School; CSE’s main room; Marston Science Library’s main room; Reitz Union, Room 366; Health Science Center, Room C2-041C; Veterinary Medicine Academic Building Education Center, Room V1-104; and near the cafe at Southwest Recreation Center.
