Qualifying for Student Government Spring general elections officially ended Tuesday.
Supervisor of Elections Stephen Davis said a total of 513 students qualified for SG elections on Friday, Monday and Tuesday. Seventy-two students slated on Friday, 95 on Monday and 345 on Tuesday, he said.
Davis said he didn’t break down the numbers per party.
The Students Party and the Swamp Party made their candidate selections Tuesday night.
Students Party spokesman Michael Christ said 75 students slate with his party, and 44 out of 50 seats will be filled, which is a record high for the party.
“It’s very important that they have ideas for the future and in Senate,” Christ said, “but it’s also important that they did it in the past.”
Swamp Party spokesman Elliot Grasso said about 400 students slated with his party.
Grasso, who was pleased with the turnout, said the party will fill all 50 possible seats.
“We’re gonna go with who we think will represent students the best,” he said.
