The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile rolled on to the North Lawn on Wednesday to meet potential “Hotdoggers” for 2013.
Many UF students stopped by for photo ops and cheeky comments, but some could end up as “Hotdoggers,” the name for the group of 12 recent college graduates who drive the Wienermobile full time around the country to promote Oscar Mayer.
Hotdoggers Eliot Pattee and Anggela C. Pimentel Warstonh, who go by the aliases of Deli Eliot and Anggie Dog, said although the recruitment process begins in February, they’re trying to raise awareness on campus for the job.
“They love the Wienermobile, and by extension, they love us,” said 25-year-old Warstonh.
Warstonh said the 24-foot-long Wienermobile, which has a Chevy Chassis base, is easy to drive.
Hotdoggers have two weeks of training at Hot Dog High in Madison, Wis., to learn to drive the vehicle.
Pattee and Warstonh cover the southeast U.S.
They said Oscar Mayer recruits heavily from 10 different campuses, including UF and Florida International University.
“We’ve been as north as D.C., as west as Nashville and as south as Miami,” Pattee, 22, said.
The hotdoggers travel in the Wienermobile for one year starting in June visiting different events like car shows, football games and food festivals.
The Wienermobile is equipped with six seats and a flat-screen TV.
“You can put a single smile on their face by just showing up,” Pattee said.
The Weinermobile made an appearance on the North Lawn on Thursday afternoon. Representatives from Oscar Mayer are recruiting college grads to become “Hotdoggers” and travel the country.
