The key to getting on track to good health is to set small, achievable goals. These goals should be easy enough to last enough that they become habits. Here are some everyday health tips that can jump-start your journey to a developing a healthy lifestyle.

Drink water

Water is essential to your health. It helps to carry nutrients throughout the body and flush toxins out of organs. Drinking enough water keeps your body hydrated, which is necessary for proper functioning. Water can even boost your metabolism, give your healthier skin, increase productivity, aid digestion and reduce appetite.

Rest up

Sleep plays a critical role in our health. Sleep improves our memory and learning capabilities. According to Harvard Health, people who slept after learning a new task performed better on tests later. Getting enough sleep can help us to control the hormones that affect our appetites. In addition, sleep can improve one’s mood and boost the immune system to ward off disease and illness.

Get moving

According to Health.com, spending too much time sitting can cause fat to build up around the heart, leading to cardiovascular disease. Individuals who spend hours a day sitting, should stand up and walk around every hour or two. Even if you run everyday and exercise regularly, sitting for an extended period of time can be detrimental to your health.

Make the switch from white to wheat

The difference in the nutritional value of white bread and whole wheat bread is huge. White bread is made from processed bleach flour, sugar and artificial starchy carbohydrates. Whole wheat bread is made from wheat berries, which are full of nutrients. Whole wheat bread is much higher in fiber, which aids digestive health and can help you feel full.

Ditch the soda

Regular soda and diet soda impose a number of health risks. The sugar and artificial sweeteners in soda can cause a number of health problems from headaches to nausea and maybe even cancer. Soda offers absolutely zero nutritional value. According to Fit Sugar, drinking diet soda can increase your risk of heart attack and stroke by 44 percent.
