A cook at the Pollo Tropical in the Reitz Union was arrested on a battery charge Sunday morning.

Gainesville Police arrested Jevon Terrell Battles, 20, on a charge of simple battery.

A witness, Antron Hutchinson, and the victim, Ashley Kerney, told Gainesville Police that Battles was arguing with Kerney when he got angry and grabbed her hair and slammed her against a wall.

Battles then pulled her to the ground and punched her in the face repeatedly.

After Battles’ attack, there was blood throughout his apartment, Kerney’s nose was bleeding, the right side of her face was bruised and swollen, and her lip was cut, according to a GPD arrest report.

According to the report, when police questioned Battles, he said Kerney tried to hit him, so he grabbed her and pulled her to the ground.

Battles told police that as he and Kerney fell, she hit her face on the corner of a dresser.

Later in the police interview, Battles stopped and said, “Let me tell you the truth,” according to the report.

Battles then told police he had hit her in the face multiple times.

He was arrested at 2:10 a.m.
