Go Radio plays tonight in Gainesville on ‘Go To Hell’ tour

When her best friend’s father died in April, Ashley Yawn turned to Go Radio lyrics to express what she couldn’t say.

“I put on ‘Redemption In The Verse,’ and played it as loud as my car stereo would allow,” she said. “We screamed the lyrics and cried together.”

The band that helped Yawn through a rough time will play tonight at High Dive with opening acts Paradise Fears and Stages and Stereos. Doors open at 7 p.m., and tickets are available for $12 at www.ticketweb.com.

Go Radio last performed in Gainesville in April.

The group formed in 2007 after Jason Lancaster, lead vocalist, left his former band Mayday Parade.

Tallahassee’s Go Radio has released two EPs and two albums. The most recent, “Close The Distance,” released in September.

Alex Reed, guitarist and vocalist for Go Radio, said the band couldn’t be “more excited and more satisfied” with the new album. He said the band members found their strides writing together.

“Growth is something a band should constantly be doing,” he said. “This record is proof of our growth and what we have been through in our lives the last couple years.”

Yawn said it’s Go Radio’s honesty and soulfulness in the music that really got to her, like the song “Any Other Heart.”

“Go Radio is one of those bands that, when you listen to them, the lyrics can really slap you in the face,” she said.

Reed said the inspiration for Go Radio’s music comes from the adversity the members have overcome throughout their lives.

“I don’t think we could make these songs up if we tried,” he said. “We actually live everything you hear.”

Reed said hearing that Go Radio has helped people’s lives is the “most satisfying and overwhelming thing, all at the same time.” He said that when he was younger, there were bands that helped him out, and being able to give back is an honor.

“I feel truly blessed to be in a band that moves people,” he said.

The show at High Dive is one of the first stops on Go Radio’s “Go To Hell” tour. Reed said the show will be a good combination of every album, including fan favorites and songs the band has not played on previous tours.

“We’re going all out on this run,” he said.
