Sophomore quarterback Jeff Driskel escpaes the pass rush against Vanderbilt on Oct. 13 at Vanderbilt Stadium. Driskel will start against Florida State on Saturday despite nursing a sprained right ankle, coach Will Muschamp announced on Wednesday.

Gators quarterback Jeff Driskel will start on Saturday at Florida State, coach Will Muschamp said on Wednesday during his weekly teleconference.

The sophomore missed last week’s win against Jacksonville State due to a sprained right ankle he suffered the week before against Louisiana. After sitting out practice on Monday, Driskel was a full participant on Tuesday.

"He looked fine," Muschamp said. "We did everything we normally do. There was nothing limited within the package of what we did with him with the way we normally prepare for any game.”

Fellow sophomore Jacoby Brissett started against Jacksonville State in Driskel’s absence. Brissett completed 14-of-22 passes for 154 yards in Florida’s 23-0 win. For the season, Driskel has thrown for 1,324 yards and 10 touchdowns with just three interceptions.

Muschamp added that Driskel, who has run for 424 yards on the season, didn’t look any less mobile than he was before the injury. The Gators may benefit from his scrambling ability as Seminole defensive ends Bjoern Werner and Cornellius Carradine have combined for 20 sacks this season.

Muschamp said the only thing that could keep his quarterback out of the high-stakes rivalry game would be a setback.

“Unless something just unheard of happens in practice today or tomorrow,” Muschamp said. He ought to be ready to go Saturday."
