Blue Key gives students chance for healthy growth within their major

Florida Blue Key is hosting its annual Health Professions Day today with an appearance from a Gator football alumnus.

Tate Casey, a former tight end, will discuss his career in medical product sales in the Reitz Union Grand Ballroom, according to the Florida Blue Key website.

The event starts at 4:30 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m. Casey will speak at 5:30 p.m.

Other speakers include Dr. Kevin Farmer, the team physician for the Gators, and Dr. Greg Reddish, a UF College of Dentistry alumnus, according to the website.

Pre-health students can also spend time with representatives from UF’s colleges of medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine.

Director of Health Professions Day Clay Townsend said this is the first of two events for pre-professional students. The other event is called Legal Day, which happens in Spring, and it is for pre-law students, the 19-year-old applied physiology and kinesiology sophomore said.

“It gives pre-health students exposure to the actual field they want to go into,” Townsend said.

The event will also feature a raffle for Princeton Review and Examkrackers, which offer MCAT online courses, and Tutoring Zone and Study Edge exam reviews.

Townsend said this year will also feature tabling from about 30 pre-health organizations. He said it offers a way for students to become more involved in their majors.
