Gainesville Police arrested a political candidate’s son on Saturday afternoon for allegedly resisting arrest.
Police arrested Tyler Marlin Yoho, 22, of 8209 SW 95th Lane, after he got into a fight with his friend and resisted arrest from officers Saturday, according to a GPD arrest report.
Tyler Yoho is the son of Ted Yoho, a Republican candidate from Gainesville who is running for Florida’s District 3 seat in the upcoming Nov. 6 general election.
Police gave the following account:
At about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, GPD officers responded to a call about Tyler Yoho fighting with his friend in the 1900 block of Northwest First Avenue.
When officers arrived at the scene, a crowd formed, and Yoho tried to incite the audience by yelling and cursing about the fight.
Officers tried to calm Yoho, who kept going after his friend.
Police issued Yoho a notice to appear for disorderly conduct and ordered him to leave.
Yoho refused and tried to pump up the crowd again. He also “bowed up” — clenching his fists, flexing his chest and acting like he was going to punch the officers.
An officer grabbed Yoho’s wrist and told him he was under arrest, but Yoho pulled away and curled his arms close to his chest.
When police tried to subdue Yoho, they fell onto the side of a police car, breaking the outside mirror and denting the car’s front right panel.
Yoho was arrested and booked into Alachua County Jail at about 4:30 p.m. He was released later that night, at 10:28 p.m.
