Student Government Productions and Reitz Union Board Entertainment are giving Twitter, Instagram and Facebook users at UF a new mission.
Passion Pit is scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center, and both organizations are using social media outlets to give away tickets.
“By giving away tickets on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, we can keep people in the know,” said SGP public relations vice chair Evan Galin, a 20-year-old public relations junior. “This is the most interactive campaign we’ve ever done.”
Alex Povella, an 18-year-old biology freshman, won a RUB Facebook contest by posing for a picture with a dry erase board promoting the concert. His photo beat out 10 others and earned 133 likes.
RUB bands committee co-chair Izaura Spence, a 20-year-old finance junior, estimated a total of 50 students entered the organization’s three social media contests. About 2,000 of the 3,000 Passion Pit concert tickets had been sold as of Monday, said SGP vice chair of marketing Tova Miller, a 21-year-old journalism junior.
Four free tickets are still up for grabs. Two winners of SGP’s last contest, which references the Passion Pit song “Sleepyhead,” will be selected at 5 p.m. today. Students can enter by tweeting a “sleeping” photo to @UFSGP and including the hashtag #sleepyhead.
