Libertarian vice presidential candidate to speak at UF today

The third-best-known political party in the United States believes in economic freedom and individual liberty.

“We’re the party of peace and prosperity,” said Adrian Wyllie, chairman of the Libertarian Party of Florida.

Libertarian vice presidential candidate Jim Grey will speak about educational reform and other important issues at 10 a.m. today in the Reitz Union Auditorium.

Wyllie said neither the Republican nor Democratic parties follow through with what they promise. Libertarians are the only party that wants to balance the budget, eliminate the Federal Reserve, and end the war overseas and the war on drugs.

UF student Josh Vadeboncoeur invited Grey to campus.

Vadeboncoeur, a 20-year-old political science junior and campus coordinator for the Gary Johnson 2012 campaign, reached out to his camp earlier this year.

The event, hosted by the Graham Area Council and Inter-Residence Hall Association, aims to inform UF students of all candidates for the 2012 election. Grey will not be paid to speak.

“There are more than two parties, and the Graham Area Council thinks it’s important to inform students and residents there are more candidates than what they see on TV,” said Brandy Myers, 20-year-old business and criminology sophomore and Graham Area Council president.

Tori Lovins, a 19-year-old biology sophomore, said she’s looking forward to hearing the Libertarian vice presidential candidate speak.

“I think that in order to understand your own beliefs, you must expose yourself to others,” she said.
