From college students furnishing apartments to collectors looking to find a hidden gem, Gainesville’s first Great Garage Sale is expected to draw a crowd this weekend.
The city’s first collaborative garage sale will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the southeast field at the Gainesville Regional Airport, 3880 NE 39th Ave.
About 80 vendors will sell items that range from household items to crafts to art, said Laura Aguiar, the public relations and governmental affairs manager for the airport.
“We expect a lot of household items for bargains,” she said. “It would be great for students looking for something to furnish their apartment.”
For Douglas Meyers, who has been finding hidden treasures for about 40 years, Saturday’s event is a big opportunity, he said.
“I started buying at auctions when I was about 9,” he said, “when I had special permission from the auctioneer.”
Aguiar said the event is the airport’s new way of supporting the March of Dimes. The amount of vendors has allowed the airport to surpass last year’s charity donations. The event will have 30 more vendors than originally expected.
“I think we’re getting even more excited because we have had such an incredible response,” she said.
