UF Student Government political parties started campaigning this week for Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s elections.

Both the Students Party and the Swamp Party appeared around campus and provided students with information about their campaign platforms and party messages.

This semester, both parties have new platform points generated by student input. For example, the Students Party aims to bring more options where of-age students can buy alcohol on campus.

Students Party campaign manager Dave Bradshaw said many UF students are old enough to consume alcohol responsibly, including more than 15,000 graduate and professional students.

Currently, students who can drink legally can only buy alcohol at the Orange & Brew.

“It seems to be a little harsh,” Bradshaw said.

One of the points on the Swamp Party’s platform is to install sunscreen dispensers in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Swamp Party spokesman Daniel Landesberg said it’s a completely new idea.

He said party leadership was sitting around brainstorming platform points, and a lot of them had sunburns from a football game.

“It can really prevent potential skin damage and certainly be beneficial to students,” Landesberg said.

Both parties’ platforms said they hope to establish more scooter parking on campus and increase funding for student organizations.
