Gainesville Police caught and arrested a man Friday morning after he walked around an apartment complex parking lot with his shorts unzipped and genitals exposed.

Police charged Shashi Prakash with indecent exposure Friday when a GPD officer found him in an Enclave Apartments parking lot, according to a GPD arrest report.

At about 6:30 a.m., Megan Oftedal left her apartment to go to work. When she got downstairs, Prakash, 29, of Newark, Del., approached her with his pants unzipped and without any underwear.

Oftedal, 22, said Prakash “didn’t seem with it at all” and that he asked her several times where to find a certain apartment.

Prakash followed Oftedal into the parking lot until she locked herself in her car to call 911.

When GPD arrived at the parking lot, Prakash walked away from Oftedal’s car and toward another row of cars.

The officer ordered Prakash back for questioning and asked him several times to zip his pants.

Prakash told the officer that he went to a club with a woman Thursday night and woke up in the backseat of his car, the report stated.

Prakash could not give a reason why his pants were undone or why his genitals were exposed.

Police arrested Prakash and booked him into Alachua County Jail at 7:18 a.m. Friday. He was released later that day.
