What do the Olympics, Ryan Seacrest, Michael Phelps, NBC, Chick-fil-A and UF’s Student Government have in common?

They are all featured in this week’s does-watching-the-Olympians-do-triple-back-flips-row-boats-for-200-meters-swim-faster-than-you-can-run-and-dive-from-high-in-the-air-make-you-feel-bad edition of...

Darts & Laurels

Although the athleticism and power of the Olympians competing in London this summer are awe-inspiring, we have to throw a you-cut-to-who-when-the-opening-ceremony-honored-the-victims-of-the-London-terrorist-attacks-in-2005 DART at NBC for its terrible coverage of the Olympics thus far.

Not only did NBC completely crap over the victims of the 2005 London bombings, it has also chosen to delay coverage of some of the most important events. Good thing there’s not a website where people from all over the world can post their reactions to events as they happen or anything.

Despite the fact that you probably missed it while NBC was talking to Ryan Seacrest, we want to give a what-were-you-saying-France LAUREL to Michael Phelps, who has won more Olympic medals than anyone in history.

So far, he has won 19 medals in his career and 15 of them have been gold. No big deal.

Whether you support or oppose eating chicken sandwiches there, we have to throw a maybe-you-should-focus-on-making-delicious-chicken-sandwiches-not-donating-money-to-groups-that-make-the-lives-of-LGBT-people-worse DART at Chick-fil-A.

It’s interesting that people are stepping up for freedom of speech but not the freedom of association or other freedoms being denied to the LGBT community.

For standing up for equality, though, we give a going-rogue-b-tches LAUREL to Anthony Piccola, the manager of a Chick-fil-A in Nashua, N.H., who donated sandwiches to Unity Through Community, a festival celebrating gay rights.

How many people showed up to support this guy’s freedom of expression?

Back to the Olympics, we throw one last you-have-got-to-be-effing-kidding-me DART at the Internal Revenue Service, which will will tax medals and the awards given to American Olympians who win them.

Wouldn’t it be funny to see IRS agents do gymnastics? It would make these taxes more enjoyable if they actually had to work for them.

Finally, we give a thanks-for-standing-up-for-free-speech LAUREL to the student senators of both the Unite Party and the Students Party who voted in favor of the resolution supporting the Alligator’s Save the Racks campaign.

Unfortunately, the resolution did not pass.

Have a fun and safe weekend, and be sure to check back next week.
