The Student Senate agenda began with three resolutions up for vote at Tuesday’s meeting, but Sen. Umair Asghar removed his resolution regarding independently owned newspaper racks when the meeting started.

The resolution asked the UF administration to halt the removal of all independently owned newspaper racks until retired economics professor David Denslow finished an impact study.

Asghar said he wrote the resolution hastily after the story broke last week. He said he wants to pull the current resolution and rewrite it for Tuesday’s meeting.

After the meeting, Asghar said he wants to have this week to gather more input.

“I didn’t do enough research,” he said.

He said he wants the new resolution to be perfect and will submit it again to the Judiciary Committee.

The Judiciary Committee unfavorably passed the first resolution 3-1, with Asghar as the dissenting vote at their meeting Sunday.

“I was appalled that the Judiciary Committee found it to be unfavorable,” he said.

The other two resolutions were honoring Rebecca “Becca” Harris, a UF student who died in a hit-and-run accident, and Wayne Wallace, former director of the Career Resource Center.
