The Gainesville Division of the U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested a man connected to a Feb. 24 Gainesville bank robbery on Friday night in Lecanto.
Roger E. Giles was arrested on a warrant for robbery with a firearm, kidnapping, grand theft and grand theft auto, according to a press release from Deputy U.S. Marshal Bryon Carroll.
Giles, 28, is the second suspect accused of robbing the Bank of America at 7606 W. Newberry Road.
Police made the first arrest July 17 after Robbin D. McRay, 54, confessed to detectives his involvement with the heist, according to Alligator archives.
On Feb. 24, two men, one armed with a short-barreled shotgun and another with a plastic bag, robbed a Bank of America branch. The men escaped in a stolen 1994 Chevrolet van believed to have been driven by a third suspect.
According to the release, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant for Giles’ arrest on July 24.
Task force members received information on Thursday that Giles was hiding out in Citrus County with his girlfriend.
On Friday, task force members, from the U.S. Marshals Service, ASO and Gainesville Police, traveled to Inverness, to look for Giles.
The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office led task members to Giles’ mobile home at 5120 Barker Point in Lecanto, west of Inverness.
At around 7:15 p.m. Friday, task force members and local deputies surrounded Giles’ home and arrested him without incident.
Police later booked Giles into the Citrus County Detention Facility, according to the release.
Giles is in jail with a $200,000 bond.
