As I end my time at UF, I would like to say the following words to my fellow Gainesvillians:
Thank you for being gentle with my fragile beginning and gracefully accepting my exit. Thank you for giving me the music to twirl to late into the night. Thank you for showing me more evidence in support of an “It takes all kinds of people” philosophy. Thank you for letting me sit next to people who also don’t understand musical key every fall in The Swamp. Thank you for teaching me to be my own No. 1. Thank you for those summer nights that are too blurry to attempt to describe.
There is a lot I wish I could say I had done with my time here, but I have no regrets. Not even that OKCupid date with Kevin the “musician.” I’m not angry with anyone from my time here. I realized long ago that it wasn’t simply fair to claim a grudge on any ground.
It’s because of my time here that I’ve even gotten to see from the shoulders of giants and gained enough courage to write these words: My Title Town, you will forever be in my heart and in my family.
Farewell.
