A car accident Monday afternoon resulted in Gainesville Fire Rescue cutting a woman free from her car.

At about 4 p.m., Gainesville Police Department and GFR responded to a call about a two-car accident at the 700 block of Northeast Eighth Avenue.

Officials did not release the drivers’ names.

A 61-year-old man driving a painter’s van collided with a Toyota Prius driven by a 22-year-old woman at the intersection of Northeast Eighth Avenue and Northeast Seventh Street.

The van crashed into the Toyota, which might have run a stoplight, on the driver’s side.

The woman was trapped inside her car.

The van then drove into a fence at a nearby home.

GPD directed traffic away from the crash while GFR firefighters used hydraulic jaws and power tools to free the woman from the car.

Traffic around Northeast Eighth Avenue was blocked for about an hour.

According to GFR District Chief Jeff Lane, the man and woman are in stable condition.

Alachua County Fire Rescue took the woman to Shands at UF, he said.

The man did not receive any injuries at the scene because of his van’s airbags, Lane added.
