Three UF students are taking a class project from campus to the streets.
Chemical engineering sophomores Pearl Leung, 19, Michael Cornwell, 20, and Brittany Clendening, 19, planned a bus route to Lake Wauburg for a summer class project. They decided their proposal was worth more than a grade.
Clendening said the group hopes to give the proposal to the Regional Transit System by Summer B.
The proposed route would run every 30 minutes on weekends starting at 9:30 a.m. and ending at 5:30 p.m.
The bus would stop on campus, at nearby apartments and at Lake Wauburg, which offers recreation free for students and faculty. It is located eight miles south of campus on U.S. Highway 441.
The trio created a Facebook group called “RTS to Lake Wauburg,” which has more than 200 members.
They plan to present their proposal to RTS and UF Student Government.
Chip Skinner, marketing and communications supervisor for RTS, said SG and the UF Transportation Access Fee Committee choose new routes.
Skinner said that if the proposal goes through, it is likely to start running in the spring or summer of 2013.
