Students in an empire state of mind can get their Big Apple fix only a few miles away.
UF is daring students to attempt the “Climb the Empire State Building Challenge” at Lake Wauburg.
Students have to climb the 55-foot rock wall, located at Lake Wauburg’s north shore, 27 times to complete the challenge. The total amount of climbing is equal to the trek to the top of the 1,454-foot-tall Empire State Building.
“It’s my first time climbing the rock wall, and it certainly won’t be the last,” Kasey Silver, a 22-year-old marketing senior, said.
Once they sign up, challengers can track their progress throughout the summer.
Students can climb any of the 19 courses up to five times per visit.
All attempts must be completed by the July 22 deadline. The first 50 participants who complete the challenge will receive an exclusive T-shirt.
“I haven’t done a lot of rock climbing in my day, but if King Kong can do it, I’m sure I can,” Fabian Diaz, a 21-year-old English senior, said.
