Hawthorne man found with 1.5 pounds of marijuana in car

A routine traffic stop by the Gainesville Police Department led to the arrest of a FAMU student who had 1.5 pounds of marijuana in his car.

Police arrested Aaron Harriott, 20, of Hawthorne, at 11:25 p.m. Wednesday on charges of drug possession with the intention of selling , a third-degree felony, and drug dwelling, a first-degree misdemeanor.

According to the police report, a GPD officer pulled Harriott’s car over on the 900 block Northeast 23rd Street for a traffic violation. During the stop, the officer said Harriott appeared nervous.

A police dog on the scene alerted the officer of possible drugs in Harriott’s car. The officer searched the car and found 1.5 pounds of marijuana in the trunk.

The officer reported 1.5 pounds exceeds the normal amount for personal use and concluded Harriott was intending to sell the marijuana.

Harriott is currently in jail with a bond set at $16,000.
