Summer a great time to have laid-back, short-term flings

While you probably shouldn’t expect your summer to end up like a musical, you can still meet new potential flings at the beach, at bars if you’re of age, local pools — you get the idea.

If you can’t already taste it, we’re about two weeks away from four months of sunshine and freedom. Even if you happen to be taking classes or doing an internship, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy this wonderful season we know as SUMMER.

If you’re single, say hello to the potential of finding a summer fling. Think along the lines of Sandy and Danny from “Grease,” Noah and Allie from “The Notebook” or even Baby and Johnny from “Dirty Dancing.” While you probably shouldn’t expect your summer to end up like a musical, you can still meet new potential flings at the beach, at bars if you’re of age, local pools — you get the idea.

Due to the casual and laid-back nature of summer flings, you should be careful about how you approach them. If you are looking for a long-term commitment, these are probably not for you. However, that’s not to say summer flings can’t turn out to be something more. Think of them as more of a trial period to see if it will work out. Expect nothing and you may be pleasantly surprised.

An article from Glamour magazine featured summer fling opinions from men around the Jersey Shore area, and as a whole, these men said that they’re down to have fun but don’t expect much out of these short-term romances.

One of the interviewees, a guy named Ed, said that his sole purpose isn’t picking up girls when he goes out, but instead he’s concerned with having fun with the guys and acting like an “idiot.” Other guys interviewed in the article said that they see summer flings as convenient, fun, a great way to meet people on vacation and that they may or may not lead into something more.

As you can see, summer flings are generally just that: A fling. Short, sweet and temporary. But take that as an opportunity to meet new people you may never see again. Use this time to find out what you like and don’t like and have fun with it. If you don’t find your soul mate by the time it’s over, at least you had a summer worth remembering.
