About 200 tires will roll down Stadium Road on Monday in honor of Michael R. Edmonds Jr.
Team Florida Cycling, a student-run sports club at UF, will host an hour-long bike ride leading up to a 7 p.m. memorial service for Edmonds.
The 26-year-old journalism student died Sunday after falling from the upper levels of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
The memorial ride is open to the public. Participants will leave from Turlington Plaza at 5:45 p.m.
Richard Buning, mountain vice president of Team Florida Cycling, said he expects more than 100 people to bike along the Lakeshore Route, which includes Stadium Road, Southeast Hawthorne Road, Lake Shore Drive and East University Avenue. The route is about 12 to 15 miles, he said.
Lt. William Gainey of the UPD special services division said police are determining the amount of assistance needed.
A memorial service will follow at the Reitz Union Amphitheater.
Walker Ziewitz, road vice president of Team Florida Cycling, said UF President Bernie Machen will speak at the service.
Buning said the event is not about closure or mourning.
“It’s just a time for us all to come together and celebrate the person that he was,” he said. “Do it big, and do it right.”
Information is available on the memorial’s Facebook page, Michael R. Edmonds Jr. Memorial Ride and Service.
