A Gainesville woman stabbed three women in the chest, back, arm, neck and head during a fight Wednesday night.
Lekesha M. Grant, 31, of 2612 SW 31st Place, was arrested on charges of three counts of attempted murder. She was held Thursday night at the Alachua County Jail, where her bond was set at $150,000.
Grant got into an argument with a 16-year-old girl on Southwest 26th Terrace around 10 p.m., but Jadelyn B. Marshall, 20, stepped in, according to police. During the fight, Grant pulled out a paring knife and stabbed Marshall in the chest and the right side of her back.
While the two struggled on the ground, a 15-year-old girl tried to pull Grant away, according to police, but Grant reached back with her knife and stabbed the girl in the head. Grant reached back again, this time stabbing the girl in the left arm.
Grant then cut the 16-year-old girl, with whom she was originally arguing, across the neck. Both teens needed surgery, and the 15-year-old suffered nerve damage in her left arm.
According to police, there are inconsistencies concerning why the fight started. Marshall told officers she and the two teens were walking down the street when Grant started yelling at them because her boyfriend was beaten by a person in the neighborhood.
Bertha L. White, a witness to the alleged crime, told officers Grant yelled at her because White's boyfriend beat up Grant's boyfriend. White said Marshall and the two teens intervened to protect her.
Grant told Det. Scott Meffen she was jumped by seven people and stabbed the three women to defend herself, though Meffen could not see any bruises on her body.
