University of Florida celebrates 17th Women’s History Month

This March marks the country’s 24th Women’s History Month. The Women’s Student Association will host multiple events to celebrate, including a global business etiquette seminar and the second Masculine Mystique Panel.

Annie Boggs, WSA’s Women’s History Month director, said this is UF’s 17th year celebrating the month.

The first main event the WSA will host is the second annual Masculine Mystique Panel, which will take place Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Boggs said a panel of male students will gather in Ustler Hall to talk about women’s issues, masculinity taboos — such as showing emotion in public and pressure to fit a masculine mold — and their perspectives on dating.

WSA will also host a global business etiquette seminar called the Global Dish at 7 p.m. on March 20 in Ustler Hall. Speakers will instruct people how to greet professionals from other countries and how to bridge the cultural divide in business.

Boggs said that though this is the WSA’s first year on campus after replacing the Women’s Leadership Council, the organization is looking forward to a productive Women’s History Month.

“There isn’t an emphasis on women’s events the rest of the year,” she said. “It’s the one month when women’s issues are forefront on campus.”
