Roy Broderick screamed, “What the f--k?” as he passed through Turlington Plaza on Tuesday morning.
Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust, a national Christian abortion-awareness organization, will be back on Turlington Plaza and outside Library West today.
The organization displays pictures of blood-covered fetuses, other graphic images and the phone number of the Crisis Pregnancy Center.
“I understand that they have freedom of speech here, and it is important, but this is taken to the extreme,” said Broderick, a 22-year-old telecommunication major. “I could have just had lunch.”
Jayne White, a spokeswoman for Survivors, handed out fliers and talked to students Tuesday.
In general, the reaction is apathetic, she said. However, she has seen people break down and cry, tell her she’s doing a wonderful job and openly yell at her.
Survivors, which is based in southern California, visits college campuses, junior colleges and high schools around the United States.
“Sometimes people ask us how we are allowed to be,” said Sarah Maher, another member of Survivors. “When the police come, we have to tell them it is our right to free speech. That it is in the constitution.”

The group, which is partnered with pro-life group Created Equal, is on a nationwide tour, displaying graphic posters of mutilated fetuses to spread abortion awareness. The UF Pro-Life Alliance also displayed posters on the Plaza of the Americas. All groups will display tomorrow as well.
