Library West will stay open 24 hours from Sunday to Thursday this semester, excluding Spring Break.
Student Government will fund $59,174 to pay for two library assistants, two student assistants and two security guards, said library spokeswoman Barbara Hood.
The first four floors and the sixth floor will stay open during the new hours. The ground floor Starbucks will keep the same hours as Library West, Hood said.
A guard will check students' Gator 1 Cards at the door starting at midnight, said Sen. Katie Waldman, one of the bill's authors.
Waldman said SG will see how many people put in requests for SNAP or Regional Transit Service buses throughout the semester. She also said SG will look at library traffic during the new hours.
Hood expects to see heavy night traffic.
"It has been requested by a lot of students for years now," she said.
This semester, pre-professional agricultural biology sophomore Kevin Parza, 20, plans to spend about six hours every day at Library West. But he will not be taking advantage of the new hours.
"Very rarely do I absorb information after 1 a.m.," he said.
